A Slow Day of Self-Employment

Hey guys!  Okay, so I’ve been promising myself to start adding a few of my own videos to this site via my Crystal Stemberger YouTube Channel.  BUT, like any average person, I’ve procrastinated.  Now I’ve made a video, but it’s definitely not perfect.  I’ll work on that for the next one, but if I don’t publish it ASAP, I’ll just keep putting it off.  So here it is – a slow day in the life of a self-employed me.  🙂

My Schedule

If you rather not watch 4 minutes of me walking around my house, here are the basics:

Noon to 12:15pm – Wake up and throw on sweats and a t-shirt
12:15pm to 2pm – Answer Emails and research best ways to make extra money
2pm to 2:30pm – Lunch
2:30pm to 6pm – Answer Emails, Write Blog Posts, Review blog hosts and do website builder comparison, Freelance Work
6pm to 11pm – Hang out with hubby, friends, do fun stuff online, etc.
11pm to 3am – Answer Emails Again, Finish Anything Not Already Done
3 to 4am – Go to bed

On busier days, I wake up earlier and work through the hang out time in the evening.  Overall my normal time spent working every day ranges between 8-12 hours.  I cut that back to 3-4 hours a day on the weekend.

How does your normal day look?

Need Your Help!

I do want to do more videos, but I want them to NOT suck.  So, I need your help.  First of all, what would you want to hear/see about from me?  I need topic ideas so I can jump in.  Secondly, what did you like most about this video?  What did you like the least?  Im thinking about doing one for this how to make easy money online article. With your feedback, I can get better.  🙂

Your day is so messed up. Up all night and sleeping half the day. I guess that is one of the joys of being self-employed.

I enjoy The Khan Academy posts on YouTube. Good presentation, short and to the point. Watch a few of their videos for presentation ideas.

Looks like the spammers beat me to the comments! Foiled again!

I like the video. And, yes, we all need a media room! When I was attempting to do the work from home thing, my schedule was a bit different, but then, I have the kids that refuse to let me sleep much later than 9 even on weekends. Otherwise, it wasn’t that far off.

    Keep up the video work!

This is so fascinating to me. I am so new to this and I have tried to create some structure, but staying up until 4am!?! Good for you! I’m going to let loose a little. Also Dexter is so cute.

My suggestion would be to do a video of one of your recipes. Show some of the trickier steps or the entire thing.

@jane, I thought it was messed up too, but now I realize that I just shifted back my old routine by 4 hours. It helps when working with British ad contacts. 🙂 I’ll check out the Khan Academy posts sometime.

@Shane, LOL, I deleted the spam comment. The media room really is a time suck if I don’t watch myself. For the last few days, I won’t let myself watch anything until my first round of emails are answered and I have a post scheduled for the next day on BFS.

@Mortgage Free Mike, staying up late isn’t hard when everything else is pushed back too. 😉 Thanks, I think Dexter is adorable too…so ugly that he’s cute.

@MikeS, that’s a great idea! Next time I do a recipe, I’ll record it and use that instead of pictures.

Wow, you have a long day. Get some more sleep. If you are interested in getting a daily job for two hours a day, look around for house-sitting or housekeeping. It really pays off. Even if you don’t think you fit the job, try it out. I surely did, and succeeded.

  7. Dear Debt

I would totally have your schedule if I was self-employed. I’m such a night owl and currently go to bed at midnight or 1am, and wake up at 6:45am to get to work by 8:30am, which goes until 5pm. I then come home and eat, relax a bit and then from 7pm – midnight, I’m looking for work, responding to emails/comments, writing and commenting on other blogs. I’d love to just have my own schedule, even if it is a lot of work.

  8. Crystal @ BFS

@David, sleep is for 4am-noon, LOL. 🙂 House sitting or something like that would be awesome. And now I need your guest post about how you succeeded.

@Dear Debt, I had your schedule for a while and it just kept moving back. 🙂 We night owls need to stick together, lol.

Good video – but the tall skinny format is hard to watch. Does your phone have a horizontal mode? (If that’s a stupid question, sorry, I don’t really know how smart phones work.)

  10. Crystal @ BFS

@Zendelle, yeah, I didn’t know that was how it would look…oops. Next time, I will totally do it horizontally. 🙂

Yay for videos!!! I need to start doing more videos.

Cripe, you go to bed 3-4 am!! I couldn’t do it. ha I’m out by 11:00, midnight the latest.

What device did you use to make that video? I want to make a few for my classroom but my quality on my phone is too poor.

  13. Tushar @ Everything Finance

I would never be able to stay up as late as you do! Even if I slept in. I like daylight hours too much 🙂 It’s always interesting seeing how other people’s days go!

  14. Crystal @ BFS

@David, glad you like the idea! I’m going to try to do one about a recipe soon.

    @Dee, my phone – Samsung Galaxy S3.

@Tushar, I’ve always been a night owl at heart…now I can just really get into it.
