How I Make Money Blogging Challenger Group – Starting Stats

Last week I introduced you to the five How I Make Money Blogging challengers.  These five bloggers came to me asking How do I start a blog and are letting me publicly document their progress as they follow the action plan in my new eBook, How I Make Money Blogging: The Beginner’s Guide to Building a Money-Making Blog. This is a sort of build website from scratch series.  Today we are documenting their starting statistics so we can have something to base progress on in the future.  🙂

Questions So Far

From Shondell:

How do I go about reaching out to advertisers to advertise on my site and earn extra money online? I am only taking advantage of Adsense, and your affiliate ebook program right now. What do you think my chances are of getting some advertisers with my stats?

My Reply:

You may be receiving a few interested emails already, right?  You’ll get even more when your Moz Rank hits 4.5 or more and/or your Domain authority hits 35 or more.

Basically, when you start receiving a ton of emails from commercial sites about “guest posting for free”, you will know that you are getting tasty for real advertisers too.  🙂

And you will want to look into affiliate advertising like Commission Junction and Flex Offers once you start receiving 10,000 visitors or more a month.

From Helen:

So could I have somehow shut off my RSS? Every other time I posted it showed up in my google reader right away. Today’s post has not. Also how to I find products to promote.

My Reply:

I asked if she installed any new plugins, but she hadn’t.  So I suggested a test post.  I know there has to be a better way to check though, can any of you give her some solid pointers? As far as products go I would recommend looking at the best dropshipping products so you at least save money on shopping the items yourself.

Stay Tuned

Please remember to stay tuned so you can watch as these bloggers move forward. And don’t forget you can also create your own website! I am really excited to see what happens! Hopefully we can all learn something from each other along the way too. 🙂

And because I am human, here’s another mention my eBook in case you would like to dive in too – How I Make Money Blogging. It covers everything you need to know about how to make money with a blog for beginners and more. If after reading it you feel like there could have been more please email me your questions.

Any advice for the challengers?  Any idea how Helen can make sure her RSS feed is working?

  1. Lance @ Money Life and More

Good luck guys. Having a baseline is a great way to measure your progress!

  2. SB @ One Cent At A Time

    Helen,
There’s a resync button on feedburner. Once you login and go to Troubleshootize tab, you’ll see it. In the past it took me 3 days after hitting the resync, to get feed back to order.

  3. Michelle

I hope everyone’s stats keep getting better and better 🙂

PS, so if Flex Offers a good affiliate to use?

  4. Call Me What You Want Even Cheap

I am constantly receiving free guest posting offers with company links. I’ve been paid for a few, but the rest want to post an article for free. In fact I have received two more since sending you that email. Still waiting for their responses.

Thanks for Flex Offers Affiliate Michelle.

  5. Helen

Thanks, @Lance – I’ve never used Feedburner. I’ll poke around WP a bit. My posts are now showing in my Reader, but really slowly.

  6. Curiosity Killed the Blog

I would definitely recommend switching to Feedburner – the standard WP feed doesn’t have any kind of interface for you to check on things when they aren’t working. Feedburner gives you a lot of options to customize your feed and keep stats on the number of subscribers you have. It’s easy to set up!

  7. Crystal @ BFS

@Michelle, I just started with Flex Offers, but they have great customer service and the payouts (if I ever earn one) are higher than Commission Junction’s so far.

  8. Squeezer @Personal Finance Success

Check your reader settings, they may be set to only update with your site every X hours.

  9. Michelle

Good to know! I just signed up also.

  10. Blair

May I ask the best source to find and compile the various stats? Is there a single plugin? I would love to know my personal baseline.

  11. Sandy

Good luck to all the entrants! I’ll be following along as well to see how everyone does.

  12. Remy @ Household Budget Geek

    Hey Crystal,

How did I miss this?! I know i’m about 5 months late but is there any way I can get in on this challenge? I started my blog in May but it needs alot of help, I can definitely use some of your practical know-how and experience to give it a boost. It’s pretty stagnant at this point. I would love to buy your ebook and dive right in to the challenge if that’s ok with you.
