Christmas Cash and Charity Giveaway – $100 for You, $100 for Them!

I really love the holidays. I get into the spooky childishness of Halloween, the food of Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite of the entire year, and the happiness and general great vibes of Christmas just make me smile! But I also understand the deeper undertones of these holidays too.

So for this Christmas, here is a list of my favorite charities:

1.  Houston SPCA – I volunteered with the big dogs there for more than a year before we moved.  The way they run their facility and their transparency impressed me.

2.  Meals on Wheels – I volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 4-5 months in 2011.  It is well organized and very much needed.

3.  Pughearts – My husband and I fostered for Pughearts for about a year.  That is how we ended up adopting Mr. Pug in 2009.

4.  Alzheimer’s Association – This disease scares the bejeezus out of my husband and isn’t on the top of my want list either.

And I Like You

– My life has changed so much this year because of this blog and my blog advertising business. That would not have happened without you – my readers and supporters. Thank you.

In the holiday spirit of giving,

I am giving away a $100 Amazon gift card or cash to a random commenter below and another $100 to the charity above that receives the most of your votes. You can also choose to sell gift cards online if you prefer cash. I personally like to use these cards through the Amazon Smile Foundation when I shop because its the same price and I feel like Im contributing to something worthwhile.

Instructions to Enter the Cash and Charity Giveaway:

1.  Leave a comment below with something off of your holiday wish list by December 19th, 2011 and you will be entered to win!
2.  In that same comment, vote for #1 (Houston SPCA), #2 (Meals on Wheels) , #3 (Pughearts), or #4 (Alzheimer’s Association).  Whichever charity has the most votes by December 19th, 2011 will receive a donation in honor of the readers of Budgeting in the Fun Stuff.  🙂

Please consider this my thank you for your support!!!

My vote is for #2 (Meals on Wheels).

I don’t really have a Christmas wish list, but one item that would be on it is a down or down alternative pillow.

  2. Jana @ Daily Money Shot

Oh, how do I pick between those choices? Alzheimer’s is something very close to me (my grandfather passed away from it in 2008) but I am a huge animal advocate. I guess I’ll go with #4. In honor of my grandpa. But if I win, can I pick for the cash to go to another charity?

Something from my list? I want a new charm for my Pandora bracelet. What can I say? I’m boring.

  3. Emily @ evolvingPF

One book on my wish list is Stripped Down by Tony and Alisa DiLorenzo.

    #2 Meals on Wheels

  4. Grace

My wish list includes a Kindle. #1 – Animals just break my heart – just so innocent and want nothing more than to be loved!

  5. Denise @ The Single Saver

My vote is for #4, though #1 came in a close second!

Something on my wish list… not a lot this year. I’d be happy with some calmness and a year free from family death for 2012. But as for something tangible, I’d like a Wii… they look like so much fun but I just can’t bring myself to spend the money on one. Maybe I can get a used one cheap? 🙂

  6. Courtne

My vote is for #1. As for my wishlist, I want a new rice cooker for Christmas.

  7. Jonathan

I vote for number 4 because my sense of consciousness is very important to me.

I would like a small wood burning stove that allows for cooking as well as heating. 🙂

  8. thefrugallery

On my wishlist is an Aerogarden so I can start my gardening indoors during the winter!

  9. Amanda

I vote for #4. My ultimate wishlist present would be Canon Rebel SLR camera to take pics of the new baby we are expecting…but I’ll be happy with anything for the little tot 🙂

Meals on Wheels all the way! Love that organization.

Kindle Fire is on the top of my wish list this year.

  11. Little Miss Moneybags

On my Christmas wish list are essential oils (especially tea tree oil, to make my own cleaning products) and reusable produce bags for grocery shopping.

As for the charity, I vote for #2 Meals on Wheels. So many people out there are still struggling this holiday season.

  12. Jeff @ Sustainable life blog

My wish for christmas would probably be a rifle! No one is really jumping out of their seats to buy that for me, so i’m also kinda looking for a bed liner for my truck. Outside of that, maybe some new shoes.

As for the charity, meals on wheels – lots of people are still out because of the recession.

  13. MikeS

On my wish list is a snow blower, but that likely won’t happen till late next year due to some unexpected bills.

    My vote goes for #4.

  14. Jeffrey Trull

I vote for #2(Meals on Wheels). It’s been a tough year for people!

I’m hoping for a new Bluetooth mouse this year. Mine’s worn out (which probably means I’m on the laptop too much!)

  15. Lee

I’d love a new t.v. for Christmas, since the old one conked out. I vote for the charity #2 Meals on Wheels, because no one should ever go hungry. Thanks!

  16. Michelle

I have on my Christmas wish list a new blow dryer. Mine crapped out on me a few months back. I wish they made them like they use too, my mom has a Conair blow dry that is 30 years old and is still running great.

    My vote is for #4.

  23. Desparate

BFS, I wanna buy this motherboard for my Mother please
It’s Christmas time and this board will cure her computer’s disease
Please, could you pick me next week?
Father says there’s not much time
You see its been sick for quite a while
And I know this board will make Momma smile
And I want her to be happy with technology again
Pick me and Momma’s sick computer will mend.

    Just lay that hundred down
You will help my aging parent out
    And I’ll never forget
    The look on her face
When Momma’s says “ain’t technology great”.

So if you choose me please
You will bring comfort and ease
Not just to an aging lady
But to all of us here
    Who have to bear
Her tirades about how tech is cheap
    Doesn’t last worth a beep
And all they want is her money.

We all agree that #4 should get donations please?

  24. Marisaa

I really, really really want an IPAD 2. That is my entire xmas wish list.

  25. Andi @ ModernTightwad

I don’t have a christmas wish list, but I did just put a Dog Dremel tool in my amazon shopping cart. My puppy gets so anxious about his nails being trimmed after he had to have foot surgery twice(!!), that it would make all our lives easier (and cheaper) in the long run.

And since I got my puppy from a shelter, I have to give our doggie dremel vote to the Houston SPCA. I’d bring home a hundred of those lonely faces if I could.

  26. Latonya R

#4 (Alzheimer’s Association)- Both of my grandmothers lived there last 10 years on earth with this disease.

I remember being in a local Target store buying gifts for friends and parents this Christmas. I suddenly noticed a little girl about 7 years old looking at the clothing display attentively. To my question what Santa was going to give her, she answered “nothing, I just want him to bring something for my mother instead”. I finally gave her $60, telling that Santa will definitively prepare the best Christmas possible for her and her mother this year. Hope her dream will come true.
